Kathy Sheraw RN, CLS
I graduated from nursing school in 1981 from Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA. I worked as an ICU nurse and then moved on to be a Head Nurse on a 32 bed surgical unit and then on to IV therapy/Oncology. For 14 years, I worked with a Family Practitioner.
Then I answered an ad for nurses looking for something different. It turned out to be laser hair removal.
Having always had a “real” nursing job, I had to give the idea of laser hair removal serious consideration. After all, it doesn’t sound like a nursing job. I was soon surprised how much I enjoyed doing and learning about laser hair removal. As it turns out, it is actually a “real” nursing job. Nurses are trained in assessment skills as well as acting as a patient advocate. We learn to listen to people differently than a non-nurse might. We learn to look at the situation at hand through the patient’s eyes. Mostly, we learn to do what is in the best interest of the patient. I am constantly surprised at how many of my nursing skills I use on a daily basis in this job.
After working for another laser hair removal center for about 3 ½ years, I decided it was time to make a big move and start my own laser hair removal center. The patient advocate side of me was telling me that I could offer laser hair removal with a different kind of approach than I was seeing in the industry.
Having had and issue with unwanted, embarrassing body hair, I could appreciate first-hand how some people actually have a need for hair removal but may not be able to afford it. At Leesburg Laser Center, we never do a hard sell, try to talk you into treatment you don’t want or hide our prices from you. We proudly list all of our prices right here on our web page.
